Should Internet Marketers Use Pseudonyms?
Tuesday, April 26th, 2011While folks who work in the field of Internet Marketing love how much freedom and variety it offers it is still a fact that most of the people who do not work here are more likely to look at it with intensely critical eyes. There are plenty of rumors and misconceptions around about IM as well as the whole internet. While folks who work in the market know how reliable and fulfilling it can be at the same time, it poses a problem: do you want to be judged for it in your regular life?
Many people who work in the field of Internet Marketing do so under a pseudonym. Article Marketing Robot They think up fake names for themselves because they wish to make sure that their IM lifestyle stays separate from everything else, particularly when they only do IM part time. Many newer and part time Online marketers are worried about getting identified by their employers and family or friends. Of course, even if you dont care about that sort of thing, it still remains a question: should you use a pseudonym for your online business?
There are lots of benefits included in using pseudonyms. The biggest benefit, not surprisingly, is being able to generate an identity separate from your personal life and making it easier to keep the two from running into them. If you work in a especially stringent or judgemental field offline it is probably very important that you keep all of your internet activities away from their eyes and using a pseudonym will help you protect yourself from that.
Another reason many IMers decide on a pseudonym is the fact that it helps them if they want to develop several products in several different fields. This is the way they are able to create expert identities in several niches while building credible businesses without their having to worry about seeming like a dabbler. You do not have to be worried about anyone saying "but what about the conflicting market that you are also selling in?" because you’ll be doing that selling under a different name?
Sadly, however, one of several greater reasons that individuals do IM business under a pseudonym is that they are trying to evade the responsibilities that come with running a business, like paying taxes. They often think that if they do not do business under their legal names then they do not have to report any of the money that they earn to the IRS. It is vital that you do not fall for this kind of faulty logic. Even if you do business under some other name the cash will still be viewed as income and you’ll be held responsible for it. Further, the IRS will probably uncover what you are doing and cheaters are always found out.
Whether or not you choose to work with a pseudonym for the business you do is entirely your choice. For a number of people it is just easier to have one name for their real world life and another for their online life. For other people keeping everything under the same name is simply easier because it means they have fewer things to remember.
